National Library of Malta
The National Library of Malta ( Bibljoteka Nazzjonali ta ' Malta, National Library of Malta) is located in the city of Valletta on the island of Malta. Its origins date back to the 16th century.
History
The collection of the National Library of Malta was founded by St. John. The oldest stocks were from Crusaders who were inherited according to a decree of the year 1555. The Order of Malta Knights Bailiff Fra Jean Louis Guérin de Tencin is regarded as the founder of the library. He died in 1766, leaving behind a book collection of 9,700 volumes.
Under British occupation, the library moved to June 4, 1812 Birthday of George III. , A new building. In 1925 she received the legal deposit and in 1976 officially as " National Library " means.
