National Museum of Music (Burkina Faso)

The Musée de la Musique de Ouagadougou is a museum in Ouagadougou, the capital of the West African country of Burkina Faso.

The museum was opened in 1999, it is dedicated to the traditional music and the musical instruments of the numerous ethnic groups in the country. The museum is the National Museum and is located in the city of Ouagadougou, opposite the Lycee Philippe Zinda Kabore in the Avenue du President Thomas Sankara.

The architecturally significant building is an excellent example of traditional African architecture of the sub-Saharan region, it was with the support of l' ADAUA ( Association pour le Développement de l' Architecture et de l' Afrique en Urbanisme ) built.

The music and instruments collection consists of 163 objects ( as of 2006), including various Membranophones, aerophones, Idiophone and stringed instruments. There are collaborations with local radio stations and institutions, including the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique et Technologique which kept numerous audio recordings. Museum director is Jean -Paul Koudougou.
