National Museum, Poznań

The National Museum ( Muzeum Narodowe pl. ) is an art museum in Poznan (Posen).

History

In 1857, the museum was founded as a museum of Polish and Slavic antiquity in the Grand Duchy of Posen by the Poznań Society of Friends Science. In 1903, the museum on permanent loan to the extensive collection of paintings was born in Posen Count Atanazy Raczyński, which was issued from 1844 to 1884 at the Palais Raczyński at the Berlin Royal Square before the Reichstag building was erected at the same place. The current building of the National Museum Poznan was built in 1904 to a design by Karl Hinckeldeyn in the style of historicism.

Facilities and Collections

The museum includes a gallery of Antique Art, a space for art of the Middle Ages and galleries of Polish art from the 16th to the 18th century and the 18th to 20th century, a collection of contemporary art, as well as foreign artists. In addition to a poster and design gallery, there is a special room for coin collections.

Among its holdings is the triptych "Allegory of the world and the Gdansk society", " Allegory of Wealth " and " Allegory of pride " from the year 1600, the painter Anton Möller ( 1563-1611 ), in art history as the " painter of Danzig " was received.
