National Palace Museum

The National Palace Museum (国立 故宫 博物院Chinese, Pinyin Guoli GuGong Bówùyùan ) is an art gallery and museum in Taipei on Taiwan in the Republic of China and home to the world's largest collection of Chinese art works of inestimable value, which spans the 5,000 years of Chinese history. Most of the 696 112 objects were originally part of the imperial art collection, which was assembled by Emperor Qianlong. Only the best pieces from the imperial collection are preserved here. Even so, this treasure still far too extensive to be issued at one time. Many of the most valued pieces are permanently shown. The majority of the collection of jade, porcelain ware, paintings and bronzes but replaced regularly.

The museum attracts millions of visitors. In 2013, the number of visitors amounted to an estimated 4.5 million.
