National Parliament of Solomon Islands

The National Parliament of Solomon Islands ( " National Parliament of the Solomon Islands ") is the unicameral parliament of the Solomon Islands. It consists of 50 members, who are elected every four years directly in single-member constituencies in a simple majority vote. Right to vote, all citizens over the age of 18, who reside at the time of your choice in one of the constituencies. Selectable are citizens over 21, who are resident in a constituency.

Usually occurs the national parliament three times a year for three to four weeks together. Average 13 laws in the year to be adopted. At the request of the Prime Minister, the Parliament is dissolved prematurely.

The last parliamentary elections were held on August 4, 2010. The penultimate parliamentary elections of 5 April 2006 resulted in a turnout of 56.95% following composition:

The national parliament emerged at independence in 1978 from the Legislative Assembly, which was established in 1974 in preparation for independence.

The current parliament building was donated in 1994 by the United States of America.
