National Physical Laboratory (United Kingdom)

The National Physical Laboratory ( NPL short ) in Teddington, Middlesex is the British equivalent of the German Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt ( PTB). It defines the force in the field of physics and technology national standards (Normal).

Its tasks are the determination of fundamental and natural constants, presentation, preservation, and dissemination of legal units of the International System of Units (SI), supplemented by services such as the Calibration UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) for the regulated area.

The first director was 1899-1919 Richard Glazebrook.
