The Institut national polytechnique de Lorraine ( INPL ) is a French university in Nancy. It is part of Nancy- Université. Organizationally, the INPL divided into seven engineering colleges and over 20 laboratories.
History

The founding members of INPL were created at the end of the 19th or early 20th century. They should satisfy the growing demand of French industry for well-trained engineers and executives. Furthermore, they should be at the forefront of technological progress and steer this.
In 1971, close the five engineering schools
- ENSIC - École nationale supérieure des Industries chimiques
- ENSAIA - École nationale supérieure d' agronomy et des industries alimentaires
- ENSEM - École nationale supérieure d' Electricité et de mécanique
- ENSG - École nationale supérieure de géologie
- ENSMN - École nationale supérieure des mines de Nancy
To INPL together. Later, the following schools are still included:
- EEIGM - École européenne d' Ingénieurs en genie of matériaux (1991 )
- ENSGSI - École nationale supérieure en genie of Industrial and systèmes (1993 )
In July 2001, the INPL joined together in Nancy Nancy- Université linking with the other two universities. This allows the student, for example, the use of the respective libraries and resulted in a uniform Fi.
Organization
The basic order is equivalent to a French university and is regulated by a law. The management of the INPL is in the hands of a president, elected by the representatives of professors, academic staff and students for a period of 4 years, with the unique possibility of renewal for a further 4 years.
The organization of the INPL is characterized by a strong executive, similar to the French political system. The President appoints the external members of the Board and sits this before. He is also Chairman of the Commission for Studies and Teaching (French conseil of études et de la vie universitaire ) and the Research Committee (French conseil scientifique ).
Study
Since all participating engineering schools to the Grandes Ecoles include admission to study at INPL only after passing through the integrated preparatory classes and the existence of the national competition ( Concours ) is possible. Together with the INPG in Grenoble and the INPT in Toulouse offers INPL also own preparatory classes. This form, in the French university system, the German Basic studies comparable study section. This has the consequence that the students already possess broad knowledge in Higher Mathematics, physics and chemistry when they take their actual study at one of the Ecoles. A lateral entry is possible for foreigners and especially good university students.
Despite the structure prescribed by the INPL, the engineering colleges remain independent in matters of doctrine and awarded partly own diploma, bachelor and master degrees.
Research
Currently, approximately 20 laboratories in INPL are members. Often the scientists are employed there at the same time as lecturers at one or more of the Ecoles active. Each year, serves more than 100 dissertations.
