National Radical Union
The Ethniki Enosis Rizospastiki (Greek Εθνική Ριζοσπαστική Ένωσις, EUA, National Radical Union) was a 1955-1967 active political party in Greece.
History of establishment
The ERE was founded in January 1955 by Konstantinos Karamanlis, who after the death of Marshal Papagos, the leader of the party "Greek Collection" ( Ελληνικός Συναγερμός ), Prime Minister; Karamanlis had joined the " Hellenic Collection" beforehand by the People's Party ( Λαϊκό Κόμμα ).
The EUA was a conservative party of the right. According to the political conflicts for generations, the Greek nation -splitting she was royalist, aligned anti- venizelistisch and anti-communist. After its establishment, most managers " Greek collection of" ERE joined, but also many politicians from other parties. Era Konstantinos Karamanlis
In the elections of 29 February 1956, the EUA gained an absolute majority in Parliament as a collection of party of the right. She was also successful in the following elections in 1958 and 1961, Karamanlis remained until his retirement after the defeat of the party in 1963 in power.
The ERE had also won the hotly contested 1961 elections. Kanellopoulos remained until 1967 chairman of the party, when he formed a government which was overthrown after only a month in a coup by the Greek military junta. After the coup the ΕRΕ was all political parties banned as. It was not renewed after the end of junta rule, since Karamanlis in 1974 a new party, the New Democracy founded.
