National tariff system (Netherlands)

The ( NTS) of the Netherlands national tariff system is a state-wide zoning system for the use of public transport. Basis are introduced since May 1980 National vervoerbewijzen (tickets, short NBI) and particularly the national strip cards ( Strippenkaart ). Included in the national system are Metro (subway ), trams, urban and regional bus services ( except on some express bus ) and trains on selected rail routes. Within the large cities of Amsterdam, The Hague and Rotterdam all regional transport can be similarly used a traffic network.

Own train tickets are available for travel in the railway traffic of the Nederlandse Spoorwegen mostly (except for OV- chipkaart ) is necessary.

Sales and organization are assumed by the Vervoerbewijzen Nederland BV ( VBN ).

Types of tickets

  • Weekly and monthly tickets ( Rochester subscription)
  • Summer Day cards in June, July and August ( Zomerzwerfkaart )
  • OV- chip card ( OV- chipkaart ) ( " ov " from openbaar vervoer → public transport) for bus, tram, metro and train to use it once (single and day tickets ) as well as several years of valid smart card in anonymous or persons bound form, which with a credit for the distance-based billing, and with single, daily, weekly and monthly tickets can be recharged. The OV student card is also available on all trains in 2nd class valid ( ICE International and Fyra extra charge, except Thalys).
  • November 2, 2011 strip cards with 2, 3, 8, 15 or 45 strips were available. Discount applies from 15 strips. Pro by extended zone of the passenger had to acquire a strip plus a base strip per trip. This system was replaced by the kilometer sharp statement of the OV- chip card.

  • Between all stations in The Hague, Rijswijk and Voorburg
  • Randwyck Maastricht - Maastricht - Heerlen - Kerkrade ( between Heerlen and Kerkrade only in Veolia trains )
  • Between all stations in Rotterdam, Capelle a / d IJssel, Schiedam and Vlaardingen
  • Utrecht Overvecht - Utrecht Centraal - Utrecht lunettes
