National Underwater and Marine Agency

The National Underwater and Marine Agency (NUMA ) is a privately funded non-profit organization in the U.S. with the aim to work for the preservation of maritime heritage through the discovery, archaeological research and preservation of shipwrecks.

History

The NUMA was initially only a fictional organization in the books of the author Clive Cussler, who actually founded in 1979 in Texas, however, an organization that name.

Since its founding more than 80 expeditions were carried out in which U- boats and steam ships and warships have been found and studied. The upscale ships include, among others, the submarine CSS Hunley from the American Civil War, which was established in 1995 located by the NUMA and secure 2000.

In contrast to the actual existing NUMA NUMA is at in the books of Clive Cussler is a government organization with over 5,000 employees, which is presented as the counterpart to NASA for the seas.
