National Union (Switzerland)

The National Union was a political party in Switzerland, which is attributed to the front movement.

History

1932 founded Oltramare Georges, who was also the undisputed leader of the party, the National Union in Geneva. On November 9, 1932 interfered with members of the National Union staged by the socialists in the municipal hall of Plain Palais. Subsequently, there was a mass rally of Socialists and then on the events in Geneva in 1932. In 1936 the Union gained national in connection with the bourgeois parties in the cantonal parliament elections in Geneva ten seats. 1937 ordered the party of about 2,000 party members.

In May 1937 Oltramare traveled to Rome and met Benito Mussolini. The National Union received funds from the Italian Government and should it take for Italy influence on the League of Nations on the question of the Abyssinian war and sanctions concerning the affair. 1939 National tried to merge with the Liberal Democratic Party in the canton of Geneva, the Union. When the plan failed, Oltramare left the National Union, which broke up shortly thereafter.

Political orientation

The National Union leaned heavily on the fascist models abroad. The party was established militaristic. The voter base came from the middle class, and the party was anti-Bolshevik. The theme of the party was " A doctrine, one faith, one leader ".
