National Wildlife Federation

The National Wildlife Federation ( NWF ) is the largest environmental organization in the United States. The organization has over five million members and an annual budget of more than $ 125 million (2006).

The National Wildlife Federation was founded in 1936 after U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt convened the first Conference on the North American flora and fauna. Until the 1960s, the National Wildlife Federation was a largely non-political organization, which mainly engaged in the care and protection of nature reserves. After a wide-ranging public debate about the publication of Rachel Carson's book Silent Spring (Silent Spring), the organization clearly politicized, and today, more than ever before participate in the political debate.

The National Wildlife Federation is among other publisher of an extensive series of publications.
