Nationalliga A (American football)

In Switzerland, American football is played since the 1980s. Organizer of the national championship and the national teams is the Swiss Football Association ( SAFV ). In addition, there in western Switzerland a wild fun league with the name Non Professional Swiss Romande American Football League ( NSFL ) whose meaning can be sporty, however designated, at best, marginal. Even in western Switzerland play the strong teams in the official championship with the SAFV.

Game Mode

The championship is currently held in two divisions with six or seven teams: The National League A ( NLA ) and the National League B (NLB). The two winners of the play-off semi-finals bear the final match, the Swiss Bowl, from the last- place team plays the NLA in a relegation match against the best-placed of the NLB to the league.

Between 1993 and 1999 there was also a National League C League as construction, but this connection was terminated due to the extinction of various teams. The restart for the league C is planned for 2013.

The game is played according to the rules of the SAFV, based on the NCAA college rules.
