Nauen Plateau

The Brandenburg- Berlin Nauen Plate, which rises an average of 15 meters above their surroundings, is a largely closed plateau that has emerged in the Saale ice age and the last ice age. It outweigh ground moraine, which are superimposed on the part of flat wave Endmoränenbildungen. While the neighboring Zauche in the south, the Teltow in the southeast and the Barnim simultaneously describe the landscape formation in the northeast next to the geological formation, carries the cultural landscape on the Nauen plate the name Havel country. Here, the river landscape Havel country expands beyond the plate and refers in particular include the Havelniederung and other lowlands.

Location

The Nauen plate lies in the middle cord and in the far west of Berlin. The northern border is the Berlin glacial valley with the Havelländisches Luch, part of the Natural Park Westhavelland. North of the lynx, the smaller ridge Ländchen ganglia connects. The eastern boundary formed the Berlin- Potsdamer Havel lakes chain that separates the Nauen plate from the eastern plateau Teltow there. After her bending to the west on Lake Templin the Havelniederung between Potsdam and Brandenburg an der Havel is adjacent the plate and to the south separating it from the Zauche.

The western boundary is formed in the first part of the Havelniederung after the river on Lake Plau again changes direction and turns to the north. Between Pritzerbe, part of the city Havelsee, and Paulinenaue the more western completion of the Nauen plate west of the Garlitzer Heath and the Heath Ribbecker and east of early and reserve for Great Bustards runs.

The total area covers about 90,000 acres. The east-west width is around 45 km to the north- south extension around 20 kilometers.

Places and parts of the landscape

As the cities of Berlin and Potsdam is also the eponymous town of Nauen at the edge of the plate, ie on the northern edge. Other major places on the plateau are Wustermark, Brieselang Dallgow and Ketzin. The cities, villages and towns on the plateau mainly belong to the two districts Potsdam- agent Mark and Havel country.

The Nauen plate was reported by the state government as ' suitable for wind field '; therefore could here the wind farm Ketzin arise. It included eight 2.3 MW N90 turbines with a total capacity of 18.4 MW. The wind farm with 100 meter high tubular towers went online in June 2005. In subsequent years, additional facilities were installed. The wind farms Ketzin Ketzin and II were in July 2012 together 26 plants with a total output of 48,500 kW. By April 2013, some 160 wind turbines were erected on the Nauen plate.

Worth mentioning are also:

  • The former military area and current nature reserve Döberitzer heath with the rare vegetation type sand - dry grassland flora, which includes the nature reserve Ferbitzer bush around 5,000 hectares.
  • The nature reserve windmill mountain on the eastern slope of the plate for Havel in Berlin- Gatow, the district of Berlin- Spandau, also with sand - dry grassland flora.

Geostruktur

The moraines and Endmoränenbildungen the Nauen plate are superimposed in part by marls and sands cover, left by the waters of the defrosting glaciers around 15,000 years ago, the ending of the Weichsel ice age. The glacial imprint of the relief resulted in a confined space in a change from glacial till, boulder clay, sands and gravel. In the hill areas of the plateau to Havelniederung occur in large Glienicke, Kladow and Gatow the surface and a large area up to ten meters thick high surface sands on how the Gatower Windmühlenberg, in the Gatower heath or Karolinenhöhe. The nutrient-poor and dry sand here is ideal for the extreme site conditions of dry grassland.

The remaining soils in the surface relief of the upper pleistocene landscape area shape to a rust-brown earth, which with good ventilation and deep root growth similar to the sands dry and nutrient-poor sites. Secondly, determine Luvisols soils, provide ideal conditions for farming with their higher soil organic matter and clay content as in the conservation area of the field Gatower hallway.
