Naurath (Eifel)

Naurath (Eifel ) is a municipality in the Trier -Saar castle in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Schweich on the Roman wine road.

Location

The place is in Meulenwald, a part of the Southern Eifel, six kilometers north of the city Schweich and is connected via the running near the country road 46 to the higher local road network. Three kilometers southeast is the flight Trier- pines.

History

In the district of Naurath traces of Roman foundation walls and bricks were found, which suggest a settlement in the Roman period. The place name may be derived from nuwe rode ( new clearing). 1569 was the place under the name Nuwert, mentioned later as Nawert.

1465 were called to Nuinrait in old documents mines. Here ore was mined. Today is nothing more to be seen by the then mining. The Imperial Count of boiler instead managed the place.

Attractions

From Kesselstatt'schen time the former courtyard house comes in Church Street. Opposite is a brewery which can be visited. In the village center is a relic from the old village life, the well house. Here's an old custom is celebrated every year: The bachelors of the town draw in November at the Fun Fair Monday in the neighboring Dierscheid and steal there a cock, which is renamed to the district border to Naurather cuckoo. He is then celebrated in the village as a new resident, and it ends up in the cooking pot of the last dare married couple. No one knows the origin of this strange custom.
