Nave Island

Nave Iceland (Gaelic: Noamh ) is a Scottish island. It is only about 500 meters north of Ardnave Point, a cape in the northwest of the island of Islay, and belongs to the archipelago Inner Hebrides, or administratively for the unitary authority Argyll and Bute. Historically Nave belonged to the county of Argyllshire.

Nave Iceland is uninhabited. The name derives from the Gaelic word for holy and refers to a church and a burial site on the island. From the church is today only a ruin left. This technique, known as Iceland Nave Chapel building is entered in the Scottish monument lists.

Geography

The maximum north - south distance is about 1.5 km, the maximum width of 650 m. The surface area amounts to 37 hectares. The highest point of the island rises 34 m above the sea level. Nave Islands marks the western entrance of the sea arm hole Gruinart.
