Navigator

A navigator or navigation officer is an officer who is responsible for navigation. The person may be part of a ship or an aircraft crew. In particular, in aviation, the profession is as good as extinct, since aircraft were equipped for navigation with flight management systems, so that the pilots navigation can even run without the support of a navigator. On large ships, however you can still find navigators.

In the Russian aircraft older type the navigator is also equipped on board and with much more responsibility than in Western aircraft. It may here give the pilot instructions, as long as no air emergency occurs while in Western aircraft of the Navigator is subject to the pilots.
