Nawanagar State

Nawanagar (Hindi: नवानगर, Navānagar ) was a princely state of British India in the western part of the Kathiawar Peninsula in what is now the state of Gujarat. The principality was founded in 1535 by Jam Ravalji Lakhaji from the Rajput dynasty of the Raos of Kutch. In 1540 he founded the city Nawanagar, today Jamnagar. The ruler title is since Vibhaji Ranmalji II ( 1852-96 ) Maharaja Jam Sajib.

Nawanagar 1812-1947 was a British protectorate in 1941 had an area of ​​9818 km ² and 470,000 inhabitants. From 1924-44 it belonged to the Western India States Agency.
