NDR Radiophilharmonie

The NDR Radio Philharmonic is a symphony orchestra of the Norddeutscher Rundfunk in Hannover in Germany.

The orchestra

The orchestra was founded in 1950 as Radio Orchestra Hannover of NWDR and since 1955 under the name of the NDR Radio Orchestra Hannover, Hannover NDR Radio Philharmonic later, continued. The present name has existed since 2003. Chief conductor have included Willy Steiner, Bernhard Klee and Eiji Oue top, the current chief conductor since the 2009/10 season Eivind Gullberg Jensen. In March 2013 it was announced that will take over as principal conductor Andrew Manze from the season 2014/2015 Jensen.

The NDR Radio Philharmonic Symphony concerts designed, hosted the concert launches, concerts for children and concerts of baroque music in a historical play. For cross-genre concerts with film music, jazz, pop and rock, the orchestra also occurs under the name NDR Pops Orchestra. Among other things, created albums with Chet Baker (1988 ) and Michael Gibbs / Joachim Kühn ( 1994). Except in Hannover and Lower Saxony, the orchestra at major German music festival is present, and it undertakes concert tours at home and abroad. In addition to concerts throughout Europe and Brazil, the three successful tours to Japan gained special importance in the years 2004, 2006 and 2009.

Attention gained the orchestra with performances at the EXPO 2000 in Hanover. The orchestra gave two concerts with Herbert Grönemeyer, from their live recording of the DVD state of affairs arose which was the first music DVD received double platinum for 100,000 copies sold. In September 2000, the orchestra played with two open-air concerts with Herbert Grönemeyer at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin and in the landscape park Goitzsche at Bitterfeld in front of more than 50,000 people.

In 2001 the orchestra together with Xavier Naidoo took on the CD Interlude / All for the Lord, followed in 2003 by the film music recording to Sönke Wortmann's film The Miracle of Bern. In addition, concerts with Bobby McFerrin, Al Jarreau, Patricia Kaas, Ray Charles and Randy Crawford and Lionel Richie were held.

The NDR Radio Philharmonic played a numerous records. The CD Canto a Sevilla mezzo - soprano Lucia Duchoňová (June 2010) with the NDR Radio Philharmonic reached a nomination for the 53rd Grammy Award 2011.
