Geography

Nebra is between cross- ford and Naumburg an der Unstrut in the west of the castle district.

History

On May 18, 876 Nebra was first mentioned as Neveri in " Ingelheimer protocol " of the kingdom of Fulda Monastery documented. In the 12th century Nebra received its town charter. The Ministerialengeschlecht " Nebra " had its headquarters here and was first mentioned in 1205. The Thuringian taverns of Vargula had 1259-1341 Nebra in fief and called themselves " Give Nebra ". The Nebra castle were 1540, the brothers of Nißmitz build.

For many centuries, red sandstone was mined at the Unstrut slopes, which was widely used as a building material for locks as for farmhouses. The reduction came only in the 20th century to a halt.

Between 1952 and 1994, was Nebra seat of the district of the same name in the district hall or the state of Saxony -Anhalt.

To a name change occurred on 1 January 1998 when renamed the town of Nebra in Nebra (Unstrut ).

In Nebra at the Old Castle, a red sandstone spur in Unstruttal 1962 four female statuettes have been found from the late Upper Paleolithic ( Magdalenian ), which are among the oldest known art works in Saxony- Anhalt. The figurines are 12,000 to 14,000 years old.

On 4 July 1999, the so-called sky disc of Nebra was excavated along with a bronze treasure of two grave robbers on the Mittelberg. It dates from the immediate vicinity Nebraska ( Wangen ) and is considered the earliest known depiction of the sky the history of mankind. She was buried around 1600 BC, during the production of 2100 to 1700 BC is estimated.

On 1 July 2009 the then independent municipality cheeks was incorporated into Nebra, on 1 September 2010, the municipality Reinsdorf.

Culture

Local attractions include the castle ruins and the Hedwig- Courths Mahler archive in the local museum with an exhibition on the Nebra Sky Disc of Nebra and the Bronze Age. Several houses are decorated with remarkable Renaissance portals.

On 20 June 2007, the multimedia visitor center Nebra Ark was opened near the locality of the Sky Disk at Nebra.

Traffic

Nebra is located on the main road 250 by Eckart Berga to cross ford. The trains of the Burgenlandbahn operate on the Unstrut train every hour to Naumburg (Saale ). The compound according to Artern was canceled with the timetable change in December 2006 by the Free State of Thuringia.

The Unstrut bicycle path runs along the western edge of Nebraska.
