NEC Supertower

The NEC Super Tower (Japanese NECスーパー タワー, enu ī shī sūpātawā ) is a high-rise building in the district of Shiba Minato district of Tokyo, Japan. It is the headquarters of the electronics company NEC Corporation.

The building was designed by the architectural firm Nikken Sekkei Ltd.. built. The skyscraper is 180 meters high and has 44 floors. The 1990 completed high-rise serves mainly as an office building.

This prestigious building is divided into three parts at the top. It is similar in side view a space shuttle more than a normal skyscraper. In the lower segment is a covered with glass 45 meter high atrium, which can be opened in summer for ventilation and cooling.

The 15-meter high air space between the lower and the upper section ensures on the one hand the natural lighting of the atrium and on the other hand, it should serve to reduce wind turbulence unavoidable by the building.

Responsible for the construction company Obayashi Gumi Corporation were the, Kajima Corporation and Nikken Sekkei Ltd..
