Nederlands Dans Theater

The Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT ) is a resident of The Hague Dance Company with contemporary repertoire. The current venue was designed by the Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas.

History

NDT was founded in 1959 by Benjamin Harkarvy, Carel Birnie and 18 dancers of "Het Nederlands Ballet " ( among them Hans van Manen and Rudi van Dantzig ).

After initial difficulties found NDT, under the leadership of Benjamin Harkavy and Hans van Mannen, soon international recognition. In 1975, Jiří Kylián for nearly 20 years the management and choreographed over 50 works for the company. Since 2004, Anders Hellström is the artistic director of NDT.

NDT I, II and III

  • NDT I is the main company, consisting of 32 dancers.
  • NDT II was established in 1978 and consists of 12 dancers 17-22 years of age
  • NDT III was established in 1991. It consisted of dancers aged over 40 years. For financial reasons, the company has been dissolved in 2006.
