NEE-01 Pegaso

NEE -01 Pegaso is the first Ecuadorian satellite.

Construction

NEE -01 Pegaso was built by the Ecuadorian Space Agency EXA without foreign aid. It is a satellite of the 1U CubeSat class. There are several cameras on board, to which also included SSTV videos, among other things, and sent to Earth.

Mission History

Pegaso was launched along with Gaofen 1 and the secondary payloads Turksat 3USat and CubeBug -1 on April 26, 2013, a Long March 2D from the Baikonur Jiuquan into space. After the satellite had stabilized enough, the solar boom could unfold and the transmitter can be activated. A German radio amateur received the first signals from the satellites later than 16 May and images of the earth have been transferred.

On May 23, 2013 Pegaso came close to the remains of a Russian rocket in orbit. Although a direct collision did not take place, Pegaso was probably taken from a peripheral piece of debris and fell into an uncontrolled tumbling motion, so that communication with the ground station is no longer possible.

The sister satellite NEE -02 Krysaor was brought into orbit on November 21.
