Need for cognition

The cognitive need ( need for cognition ) is a personality trait psychology. It describes the degree to operate in the human cognitive strenuous activities and enjoy and was introduced in 1982 by Cacioppo & Petty.

People with a high need for cognition to form their own opinions by weighing of arguments. Contrast, people with low cognitive needs can often by peripheral signals, such as attractiveness or credibility of the speaker affect. The extent of the cognitive need determined by the elaboration likelihood model applied by a two ways in which persuasive communication ( central or peripheral route ).

There are no gender differences in cognition need.
