Geography

Geographical Location

Neenstetten lies on the southern edge of the Swabian Alb on a ridge above the Lonetals, about 18 km north of Ulm and 10 km west of Langenau.

Neighboring communities

The municipality is bordered to the north by Altheim ( Alb), to the east by Börslingen, to the south Bernstadt ( Alb) and Holzkirch, and to the west by Weidenstetten.

History

Neenstetten was first documented in 1255. The place belonged ecclesiastically first to Weidenstetten. After the Reformation Neenstetten became a separate parish. The early Gothic choir tower plant received its characteristic onion dome after the collapse of the tower in 1730. The ship dates from the 15th century. It has wall paintings from that period.

Economy and infrastructure

Neenstetten has developed from an agricultural village to a structured living and working community since the 1950s. In about 25 commercial farms currently about 500 workers are employed. There are also 15 part-time farms.

Education

In Neenstetten there is a kindergarten, but no school. Primary school children go to primary school, 2 km away in Weidenstetten, secondary school students visit the association's main school in Altheim. Next leading schools are located in Langenau and Ulm.

D. Eberhardt Renz ( born May 1, 1935) is an evangelical pastor and was from 1994 to 2001 Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Württemberg.
