Nefazodone is the class of antidepressants dualserotonergen ( DSA) belonging antidepressant. It is a phenyl piperazine derivative that is structurally and partly also in its mode of action to the already longer known antidepressant trazodone is similar.
Operation
The antidepressant effect of nefazodone via two mechanisms. Blocking a part of the serotonin 5- HT2A receptor, and on the other hand, to a lesser extent, also the presynaptic reuptake of serotonin.
Nefazodone has no significant affinity to α - or β -adrenoceptors as well as histamine, dopamine, and acetylcholine receptors.
History
In Germany it was sold from 1997 by Bristol -Myers Squibb under the name Nefadar, in the U.S. it was sold under the name Serzone.
Due to some cases of severe liver failure, the drug was taken off the market in 2003.
