Negative Approach

Negative Approach (abbreviated "NA" ) were one of the first hardcore punk bands. They were among the pioneers of the genre, much like Minor Threat, Bad Brains and Black Flag. Like many other bands of the genre they were while they were rather unknown, but are now one of the most famous bands of the "old school".

History

Negative Approach was founded in August 1981 in Detroit by John Brannon and Pete Zalewski, reportedly after attending a concert by Black Flag. The first lineup of NA consisted of Brannon on vocals, Rob McCullough on guitar, Pete Zalewski on bass and Zuheir on drums. After a short time Zelewski left the band to form The Allied to. He was replaced by Rob McCullough's brother Graham. Zuheir was later then replaced by Chris "OP" Moore, now resulting lineup with Brannon / McCullough / McCullough / Moore did not change up to NA parted.

After an appearance on a sampler and a first demo the first proper studio recording was released in 1982. The self-titled EP was released by Touch & Go then and comprised present-day classics like Can not Tell No One, Ready to fight and Nothing. Although the quality of the recordings does not reach modern standards you notice the anger which was described in the texts. This EP is still regarded as a classic in genre fans.

The following year, the Tied Down LP was released, mainly those contained more ultra fast and furious songs but with dead stop and Evacuate also more mid-tempo rock song.

The band broke up during a tour in 1983 and then played their last show in Memphis. Brannon stood still after a lineup consisting of Kelly Dermody (guitar ), Dave ( bass) and Mike ( drums), In 1984 the Rice City demo and went back on tour.
