Negroamaro

Negroamaro (also: negramaro ) is a red variety. It is found mainly in the southern Italian region of Puglia, where it is cultivated for thousands of years and very good, powerful wines results.

Negroamaro contains rich fruit flavors of blackcurrant and cherry. Until recently, they were mainly used for blended wines; now increasingly also takes varietal development. The best known DOC zone for Negroamaro is Salice Salentino, where the vine is usually blended with some Malvasia Nera.

From dried grapes of Negroamaro and Malvasia Nera also the syrupy Würzspezialität Vincotto is obtained.

The Italian rock band negramaro has derived its name from this grape variety.

Descendants

The Malvasia Nera di Lecce and Malvasia di Brindisi are a natural crossing of varieties Malvasia Bianca Lunga x Negroamaro.
