Nehemiah Abbott

Nehemiah Abbott ( born March 29, 1804 in Sidney, Kennebec County, Maine; † July 26, 1877 in Belfast, Maine ) was an American politician.

Abbott studied law at the Litchfield Law School in Connecticut. After his admission to the bar in 1836, practiced as a lawyer Abbott in Calais, Maine. In 1839 he moved to Columbus, Mississippi, and continued his legal practice where he continued. In 1840 he returned to Maine and settled in Belfast in Waldo County down. In the years 1842, 1843 and 1845, Abbott was a member of the House of Representatives from Maine. He was elected as a Republican to the 35th Congress and represented there in the U.S. House of Representatives the state of Maine March 4, 1857 to March 3, 1859. Upon his deputies career Abbott was re- worked as a lawyer. 1865 and 1866 he was mayor of Belfast.
