Nei til EU
Nei til EU is a Norwegian organization, which was founded in 1988 with the aim to prevent the accession of Norway to the European Union. The first studies and working groups emerged in Stavanger and Levanger ( Verdal ), a little later followed by other cities around the country.
The starting point it was not a membership organization, although a strong collaboration with local member organizations and groups existed. Only in 1990 was Nei til EF (EF: europeiske fellesskap, European Community ) founded as a nation -wide membership organization with a democratic structure and annual meetings. " Nei til EU " was the main force to critics side in the referendum on the accession of Norway to the EU in 1994. The organization had temporarily 140,000 members.
Following the referendum was disagreement on how to continue the matter. The organization was not ultimately resolved because yet another referendum on the accession to the EU is expected. Nei til EU now has over 26,000 members, 19 regional offices and over 150 active local groups.
