Neiafu (Vava'u)

Neiafu is the largest city on the island of Vavau in the north of the Pacific Kingdom of Tonga.

Neiafu had in 2006 ( census ) 4123 inhabitants and was the second largest city in Tonga. It is located at Port of Refuge, a deep sea port on the south coast of the main island of Vavau archipelago, which is also served by cruise ships. The highest point is 113 m Mt Talau with its characteristic flattened silhouette.

In Neiafu is the management of Vavau Island Group, also banks, schools, a police station and a hospital.

Tourism

Due to the lovely location, good anchorages and the opportunities for supply and repair Neiafu is very popular with sailing and other boating enthusiasts. One of the most popular places is the small island of Mala west of Neiafu.
