Neil Anderson (RNZN officer)

Sir Neil Dudley Anderson, CB, KBE (* 1927 in Hastings, New Zealand, † June 5, 2010 in Wellington, New Zealand) was a New Zealand Vice- Admiral and Commander of the Armed Forces ( New Zealand Defence Force ).

Life

After his school education in his home town of Hastings, he joined in 1944 as a midshipman in the Royal New Zealand Navy and took after his training as a naval officer from 1950 to 1951 in the Korean War aboard the HMNZS Rotoiti part. In the following years he was trained as a navigator and was later commander of numerous ships of the New Zealand Navy as HMNZS of Taranaki, HMNZS Philomel and HMNZS Waikato.

After he was from 1978 to 1980 Chief of Naval Staff (Chief of Naval Staff ), was in succession to Air Marshal Sir Richard Bolt in 1980 he was appointed vice-admiral and commander of the armed forces (New Zealand Defence Force, NZDF ). He was so jure as Chief of Defence Staff (CDS ) to the commander in chief de Queen Elizabeth II and the commander de facto person in the acting defense minister, the military commander of the NZDF. He continued in this position until his adoption into retirement in 1983. Successor as Chief of the Defence Staff Air Marshal Sir Ewan was then Jamieson.

For his services he was appointed in 1982 Companion of the Order of the Bath, and then in 1984 for Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire and led from then on the additional name sir.

Sir Neil Anderson was married to the New Zealand writer Barbara Anderson.
