Neil Aspinall

Neil Aspinall ( born October 13, 1941 in Prestatyn, Wales, † March 24, 2008 in New York City, USA ) was the road manager and personal assistant to the Beatles.

Aspinall was a childhood friend of Paul McCartney and George Harrison at the Liverpool Institute for Boys. Aspinall and McCartney attended the same school class, Harrison was born among them. Aspinall worked as a road manager for The Beatles. He chauffeured the group and their equipment from gig to gig. After Mal Evans started work for The Beatles, Aspinall was promoted to personal assistant of the Beatles.

As a player rather exotic instruments (eg, guiro, maracas and tambourine ) in some of the songs of the Beatles and backing vocalist in Yellow Submarine Aspinall worked as a musician.

In 1970 he became CEO of Apple Corps. On behalf of the Beatles Aspinall went against Allen Klein, Apple Inc. and EMI in court. Aspinall ended his CEO position at Apple in April 2007. Together with his American wife, Suzy, he was CEO of Standby Films Ltd.. They operated this business from her home in Twickenham ( Middlesex ) from.

On March 24, 2008 Neil Aspinall died in the Sloan -Kettering Cancer Hospital in New York with 66 years of lung cancer. Paul McCartney had traveled from England to join him at the bedside.
