Neil Innes

Neil Innes ( born December 9, 1944 in Danbury, Essex ) is an English musician and composer. He became famous for his humorous and ironic compositions for the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah band and the Rutles.

Biography

In the 1960s, Innes was co-founder of the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah band struck by her quirky sense of humor and was seen by many as a musical counterpart to Monty Python. Innes wrote most of the music of the band, including their hit "I'm the Urban Spaceman ", which was produced by Paul McCartney, under the pseudonym "Apollo C. Vermouth ".

From 1972, he was with John Gorman, Andy Roberts, Mike McGear, Roger McGough and Vivian Stanshall a part of the comedy troupe and band Grimm ( the name comes from the initials of the six last names together).

Innes also worked on the projects of the pythons. He was an extra and occasional songwriter with Monty Python's Flying Circus and played minor roles in the films and the Holy Grail and Life of Brian. Also during live performances of the group he was often there and there had their own skits. These collaborations brought him the nickname " the seventh Python " one.

In the 1970s, Innes worked with Eric Idle a television comedy series entitled Rutland Weekend Television. Part of this series was the fictional band The Rutles, a parody of the Beatles. Innes composed for this fictional band songs that very " Beatle -esque " sounded. The Rutles were so successful in 1978 that a complete TV movie was produced. This film - The Rutles - All You Need Is Cash - describes inspired by the history of the Beatles the career of Rutles in a " documentary". Innes composed the music for the film and played the role of Ron Nasty, the counterpart to John Lennon. Eric Idle slipped into the role of Dirk McQuickley (Paul McCartney ).

2008, the documentary film "The Seventh Python " was published about the life of Neil Innes. It involved, among other things, the " Python " John Cleese, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin. The cast also included the Rutles drummer John Halsey, Cartoons Author Matt Groening, the musician Aimee Mann and others.
