Neil Jenkins

Neil Jenkins MBE ( born July 8, 1971 in Church Village ) is a former Welsh rugby union player who. Upon the position of the connector for the Welsh national team, which played the British and Irish Lions, as well as several clubs from Wales He held up to 8 March 2008, the record for the most points ( 1090 ), which has ever scored by a player in internationally recognized internationals until able to overtake him Jonny Wilkinson. He currently serves as assistant coach of the national team coach Warren Gatland.

Jenkins played with 19 years for the national team and because of his strong kick game, he managed to establish itself as part of the Welsh squad. At the beginning of his career he was in spite of the numerous points that he scored repeatedly criticized because he neglected other elements of the game. But in course of time he worked on his running and passing game, so it was also in these areas to the international elite.

Jenkins took part in the tour of the British and Irish Lions in 1997 and was used in all three Test matches on the position of the final art. The Lions were able to prevail in the end with two wins and one defeat in total against the South Africans. In 2001 he was part of the squad, but injured, in advance of the tour. In the second game against Australia, he was, however, a substitute for a short stint.

In the 2003 /04 season, he managed to achieve 44 successful kicks in a row. This performance is still a world record. This was also his last season as an active athlete. After he was not nominated for the squad for the 2003 World Cup, he announced his career end at the end of the season.

Jenkins scored for Wales 1049 points and is the player with the most points scored for the Welsh national team. He is one of the best known and most respected athlete of his country, and is true even though he no longer holds the world record for the most points, as the best kicker in rugby history.

In October 2000, received the Medal Member of the British Empire was awarded for his services to rugby. After the handover at Buckingham Palace, he immediately flew back to Cardiff to get there for the Blues 20 points at 24:14 on the Saracens.
