Neil Meron

Neil Meron ( born October 26, 1955 in Brooklyn, New York City ) is an American film producer, known for the movies Chicago (2002) and Hairspray (2007). Together with Craig Zadan he runs Storyline Entertainment.

Life

Neil Merlon attended Samuel J. Tilden High School in Brooklyn and then the Brooklyn College, from which he graduated in 1976. He was Craig Zadans assistant and the two produced musicals in the SoHo Ballroom. The two aroused the interest shown by Joseph Papp, who took to the Public Theater in New York. Subsequently, the two worked for Peter Gruber. Zadan went to Hollywood in 1979 and three years later Meron followed him. Mid-1980 the two founded Storyline Entertainment and produced for cinema and television.

In the 1990s, especially her work for television were popular. They produced successful TV movies with Star squad for CBS and ABC. Most Popular was the film Gypsy with Bette Midler, a film adaptation of the musical, nominated for 12 Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe. The Disney production Cinderella with Whitney Houston and Brandy was produced by Meron.

The main work of the two made ​​from musicals, but they also produce biopics.

In 2013 they produced the 85th Academy Awards.

Neil Meron was nominated eight times along with Zadan for an Emmy. Both received the 2008 Career Achievement Award from the Casting Society of America.
