Career

Youth and beginning of the professional career

Neil Robertson in 1998 at the age of 16 years on the professional snooker main tour. Since it was hard for him to come to terms with a life abroad, and as he could not gather enough world ranking points in addition to his performances, he left the professional tour after only a year, and returned to Australia. There he dominated for several years the local snooker scene.

Robertson qualified in 2003 for a second time for the Main Tour after it in the same year his first international title, the IBSF World Under -21 won Snooker Championship in New Zealand. He finished the following season on world ranking 68 The following year he won a place in the Top 32

Breakthrough in the world's best from 2006

At the 2006 World Championships he reached after victories over Paul Hunter and Stephen Lee the quarter-finals, in which he failed to 12:13 extremely short of the eventual champion Graeme Dott.

In the season 2006/ 07 Robertson started with World No. 13 for the first time among the top 16 in the world. He was set for the finals of all major tournaments. At the Grand Prix in 2006, he moved to wins over Ronnie O'Sullivan and Alan McManus for the first time the finals of a ranking tournament. He beat Jamie Cope 9-5 there and was the first Australian to win a world ranking tournament. Over the Welsh Open 2007, he first conquered the multiple world champion Stephen Hendry, Ronnie O'Sullivan and Steve Davis in the final and eventually Andrew Higginson almost 9:8. He was the only player to win two ( of seven ) full ranking tournaments in the season - a feat that had recently managed to Ronnie O'Sullivan in the 2003/04 season.

Due to its success in 2006 /07, Robertson was elected player of the year, he finished the season in 7th place ranking with mixed results in 2007/ 08, however, he fell at the end of the season to rank 10 back. In the 2008 season, he won the Bahrain Championship and his third ranking tournament at the World Snooker Championship 2009, he succeeded the advance to the semifinals.

His fourth tournament victory he celebrated in the 2009/10 season at the Grand Prix in 2009. Thus he was the first non- originating from the British Isles player with more than three wins in world ranking tournaments. He also improved in the provisional world rankings, the Provisional ranking, at No. 3

At the China Open, he retired in 2010 from in the second round with 1:5 against Peter Ebdon; in the match, but he succeeded in his first official maximum break.

World Championship title in 2010

At the World Championships 2010 in Sheffield, he became the second Australian snooker player after Horace Lindrum in 1952 ( which, however, is controversial because of the then Association disputes) the world title.

After a first round victory over Fergal O'Brien 10:5 - he stood in the second round against Martin Gould in front of the corner. After the first session he was already leading 2-6, after the second with 5:11 back, after all, yet he could decide the match 13-12 for itself. In the quarterfinals, he then sat down confidently with 13:5 against Steve Davis by. Even in the semi-final against Ali Carter he had a clear lead early and won in the end clearly with 17:12. The final against Graeme Dott ( 2006 World Champion ) showed a completely different picture. Both players were visibly exhausted from the long tournament matches, mainly reflected in many minor errors on the second day of the final. Robertson had gone into an early lead, but just could expand again until the final phase. The match ended with Robertson's 18:13 victory shortly before 1:00 clock UK time and was one of the longest finals in the history of the World Snooker Championship.

Presence

The 2010/11 season began promisingly. Especially thanks to the victory at the World Open in 2010, he could sit down for a few months at the top of the world rankings. However, he was able to benefit from the six -month ban by John Higgins, after the update in December 2010, he lost the top spot again. In the 2011 Snooker World Cup, he was beaten with 8:10 already in the first round Judd Trump. He finished the season ranked fifth

He won the prestigious Masters in early 2012. In the PTC Grand Finals 2012, he then lost his first final in a ranking tournament. Previously, however, he had won two PTC tournaments. The World Snooker Championship 2012, he was defeated in the quarterfinals to the eventual champion Ronnie O'Sullivan 10:13.

Highlights of the 2012/13 season were the finals at the International Championship in 2012 and winning the Gdynia Open 2012, another minor ranking tournament of the PTC tour. Like last year, he reached the final of the PTC Grand Finals. There he met Ding Junhui, the Robertsons 3-0 lead still could turn into a 4-3 victory.

End of March 2013, he won the China Open by a 10:6 victory over Mark Selby in the final. At the World Cup, where he scored the highest with 143 points break of the tournament, he defeated already in round one Robert Milkins. The 2013/14 season began promisingly. When qualifying for the Wuxi Classic he succeeded against the Egyptian Mohamed Khairy for the second time in his career a maximum break. In June 2013 he won the Wuxi Classic by a 10:7 final against John Higgins, his second victory in succession with a ranking tournament in China.
