Neiva is a city in Colombia, capital of the province of Huila in southern Colombia, about 350 km south of Bogotá. The city currently has about 350 000 inhabitants. Because of its location on the banks of the upper Magdalena River to 442 m altitude, the climate is humid and warm. The average temperature is 28 ° C.

Neiva was founded in 1539 by Juan de Cabrera, one of the captains of the expedition of Sebastian de Belalcázar. It was built on a reconnaissance trip in connection with the search for the legendary El Dorado, as well as the west of the Cordillera Central location Popayán.
