Nejat Eczacıbaşı

Nejat Ferit Eczacıbaşı ( born January 5, 1913 in İzmir; † 6 October 1993 in Philadelphia ) was a Turkish pharmaceutical entrepreneurs and promoted the art.

Life

Nejat Eczacıbaşı was born in 1913 in İzmir in Turkey as the oldest of seven sons of a pharmacist. His father Süleyman Ferit was the first Turkish Pharmacists in İzmir and chief pharmacist in a hospital. With the introduction of family names in Turkey in 1934, the family chose the name " Eczacıbaşı ", the " Chief Pharmacist " means in Turkish.

After completing his schooling at Robert College in Istanbul Nejat graduated in chemistry at the University of Heidelberg, Germany. From 1934 to 1935 he visited the United States, the University of Chicago and graduated with a Master of Science ( M.Sc.) in Chemistry. In 1935 he returned to Germany and joined in 1938 to study chemistry as Dr. rer. nat. at the Humboldt University in Berlin from. Prior to his return to Turkey, he studied for a year on biochemical topics at the Kaiser- Wilhelm -Gesellschaft in Germany.

In 1941, Nejat Eczacıbaşı started his own business with a pharmaceutical company for the production of vitamin supplements. As early as 1952 a production company for pharmaceuticals in Istanbul was opened. In 1958 he took on the production of hygiene articles and in 1970 was added in the production of toilet paper. The production of blood plasma and pharmaceutical raw materials began in 1982. Purpose even companies came to the manufacture of wall and floor tiles, construction and welding materials and various chemicals. The holding company was founded on 29 December 1973.

Nejat Eczacıbaşı 1973 was co-founder of Art and Cultural Foundation in Istanbul, every year since hosting various cultural events during the Istanbul Festival. The Dr. Nejat Eczacıbaşı Foundation he founded in 1978.

In 1946 he married his wife Beyhan, nee Ergene. They had two sons, Bülent (1949) and Faruk ( 1953).

On March 31, 1993, he handed over the management to his brother Şakir, which they later transferred to Bülent Eczacıbaşı again. Nejat Eczacıbaşı was Honorary Chairman of the Group. He died on 6 October 1993 in an American hospital of a stroke, where he was about to undergo an eye surgery for cataracts.

Nejat Eczacıbaşı was in İzmir founding member of the third founded in Turkey in 1961, Rotary clubs.
