Nellie Halstead

Nellie Halstead (* September 19, 1910; † November 1991), was a former British athlete and Olympian.

In the years 1931 and 1932 she set three world records in the 400 -meter run. In the British Empire Games in London in 1934, she won the bronze medal over 200 yards behind the Englishwoman Eileen Hiscock and the Canadian Aileen Meagher (silver).

At the British Championships Halstead won the gold medal in the 100 yards in 1931 and in the 200 meter race, she won the gold medal in 1934. About 440 yards she won in 1931 and 1932 and gold in the 400 - meter sprint gold in 1933 and 1937. In 800 -meter run, she won gold in 1935 and 1938. In cross- race she won gold in 1935 and 1936.

In the Summer Olympics 1932 in Los Angeles, she won the bronze medal in the 4 x 100 - meter relay along with teammates Eileen Hiscock, Gwendoline Porter and Violet Webb, behind the team from the USA and the team from Canada.
