Nellie Kim

Nelli Vladimirovna Kim (Russian Нелли Владимировна Ким; born July 29, 1957 in Schurab, Tajik SSR) is a former Soviet gymnast. She was five-time Olympic gold medalist.

Life

Kim is the daughter of a Korean father ( Korjo - Saram ) and a Russian mother. With the Summer Olympic Games in Montreal in 1976 she took part in six competitions and won four medals. She won the individual competition in the horse and jump on the ground, to the silver medal in the individual all-around. With the Soviet team, they also won the team all-around. As the first gymnast in Olympic history, she received a score of 10.0 in the horse and jump on the ground.

Four years later at the Summer Olympics in Moscow, she won the contest again on the ground (along with the Romanian Nadia Comaneci ) and the team all-around.

Kim was also five -time World Champion. She won 1974-1979 a total of eleven medals at the World Gymnastics Championships.

Since 1996 she has lived in the United States. 1999 Kim was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame.
