Nelson Freire

Nelson Freire ( born October 18 1944 at Minas Gerais State, Brazil) is a Brazilian pianist.

Life

Freire excited as a little kid sensation and won the 1957 7th place at the piano competition of Rio de Janeiro. Especially in the 1960s and 1970s he recorded great achievements, but then retired back from the concert life. After a long break from recording activities also appeared in recent years, records of his interpretations of works by Frédéric Chopin and Robert Schumann, and the two piano concertos by Johannes Brahms with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra under the baton of Riccardo Chailly. But his last published release of Beethoven sonatas did not meet the enthusiasm as the recordings mentioned above for the criticism.

Nelson Freire often occurs with Martha Argerich on piano duo.
