Nelson Pereira dos Santos

Nelson Pereira dos Santos ( born October 22, 1928 in São Paulo, Brazil) is a Brazilian film director, screenwriter and producer.

Life

Dos Santos first studied law and worked as a lawyer. From 1949 he directed documentaries and worked as an assistant director. His first feature film, which he directed, in 1954 Rio at 40 degrees. The film, set in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro, was like other works Pereira dos Santos ' influenced by Italian neo-realism. With his works, in which he also is using non-professional actors, the Brazilian reality unvarnished Pereira dos Santos was the mid- 1950s, the pioneer of the Cinema Novo.

Pereira dos Santos is a member of the Fundación del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano.
