Nemaha County (Kansas)

Nemaha County is a county located in the state of Kansas in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Seneca.

Geography

The County is located in northeast Kansas, bordered to the north by Nebraska, is about 70 km to the east of Missouri and has an area of 1863 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers of water surface. It borders in Kansas clockwise to the following counties: Brown County, Jackson County, Pottawatomie County and Marshall County.

History

Nemaha County was formed on 30 August 1855 as original county of free territory and is one of the first 33 counties that were formed by the first territorial administration. It was named after the Nemaha River. On May 30, 1879 Tornado Irving moved by the County.
