Nena (supercontinent)

Nena is in the earth's the name of a hypothetical, Palaeoproterozoic / Mesoproterozoic continent is said to have existed before 1750 to 1265 million years ago. The concept of this continent has been somewhat extended by later authors (eg Rogers, 1996). Nena is virtually identical to the earlier introduced concept of a hypothetical continent Nuna, which today is often wrongly equated with the hypothetical supercontinent Columbia in the original conception.

Naming

The name Nena for the geological continent was proposed by CF Gower, T. Rivers and AB Ryan 1990. He is an acronym from Northern Europe and North America.

Components

He arose from the earth's continents Baltica and Arctica. Rogers (1996) and Rogers & Santosh (2003) extended this definition to East Antarctica, which should have been lying off the west coast of North America.

Nena as a continent of geological

The merger of Northern Europe (mainly the later Baltica ) and other parts of North America ( Arctica ) is to before 1800 million years ago (limit range Statherium / Orosirium ) of the large continent Nena have arisen. In alternative models was at this time already the supercontinent Columbia.
