Nenad Žugaj

Nenad Žugaj ( born April 19, 1983 in Zagreb) is a Croatian wrestler. He won a bronze medal in the middleweight division at the 2010 World Cup.

Career

Nenad Žugaj and his twin brother Neven Žugaj began in Zagreb at the age of 10 years in elementary school with the rings. Nenad then visited a sports high school and then studied sports. He completed his studies from the year 2007. He then joined the Croatian army and now has the rank of lieutenant. The rings in the club he joined Hravatski Dragovoljak Zagreb, but now belongs to the club Lika Zagreb, where he is coached by Vladimir Sekulic. He concentrates fully on the Greco- Roman style. In the season 2011/2012 he also wrestled for the first time in the German Bundesliga. He started for the ASV Nendingen and won all the battles, which he denied. Inter alia he defeated while the Polish vice-champion of 2011 Damian Janikowski ( TuS Adelhausen ) and multiple German champion Jan Fischer ( KSV Köllerbach ) each on points.

Nenad Žugaj began his international career with wrestlers taking part in the European Junior Championship of Cadets in 2000 in Bratislava. He came here in the weight class up to 69 kg on the 4th Place. This placement should remain but in the next few years, where he also regularly also launched at senior level in international championships, first in the junior then, his best. As a better result is recorded a 14th place finish at the 2006 European Championship in Moscow, where he among other things, the Swedes defeated Jim Eric Pettersson. In 2008 he succeeded in two Olympic qualifying tournaments ( in Rome and Novi Sad ), where he finished 5th respectively, failed to qualify for the Olympic Games in Beijing. One consolation for him then was the 3rd place at the World Military Championship in 2008, he behind Artur Michalkiewicz, Poland and Andrei Baranowski, Belarus finished.

With Nenad Žugaj 2009 was a noticeable increase is observed form. He was winner of the Mediterranean Games in Pescara and defeated it in the finals of the Olympic middleweight champion from 2008 Minguzzi Andrea from Italy. At the 2009 World Championships in Herning / Denmark Nenad Žugaj came to wins over Artur Schahinjan from Armenia and Antti Hakkala from Finland. However, after a defeat against Habibollah Akhlagi from Iran, he left and came to 9th place.

In 2010 it went up. He he defeated at the European Championships in Baku middleweight Rune Nilsson from Denmark, then defeated the reigning world champion Nazmi Avluca from Turkey on points, defeated Shalva Gabadadse from Azerbaijan and Vincenzo Scibilia from Italy, but was defeated in the battle for the bronze medal against Melonin Noumonvi from France just after points. In the final account, he finished in an excellent 5th place. Even more successful was for Nenad Žugaj then the World Championships in Moscow. He defeated there Dajka Zsolt from Hungary, Jachangir Mumina, Uzbekistan and Laimutis Adomatis from Lithuania on points. In the semifinals, he lost to Pablo Shorey Hernandez from Cuba, but could avenge their defeat at the European Championships in the fight for a world championship bronze medal against Nazmi Avluca and thereby won this medal.

In 2011, Nenad Žugaj was in international championships not as successful as 2010. Initially he lost at the European Championships in Dortmund equal to his first fight against Theodoros Tounousidis from Greece (0-2 rounds, 1:2 points) and thus left because Tounousidis not reached the final battle. He got away with it only on the 16th Place. At the World Championships 2011 in Istanbul, he went to a newly healed rib fracture with a training deficit at the start. Seen in his 7th place at this championship, which he in defeats against Alim Selimow, Belarus and Hassan Saman Tahmasebi, Azerbaijan, achieved with wins over Thomas Suppiger, Switzerland, Melonin Noumonvi and Lee Se - yeol, South Korea, a success.

Nenad Žugaj is multiple Croatian champion in the middleweight division.
