Neo Psychiko (Greek Νέο Ψυχικό (n. sg. ) Outdated, even neon Psychikon ) is a northeastern suburb of Athens, Greece.

Neo Psychiko 1946 was spun off from the congregation Chalandri and was initially a rural community ( kinotita ). In 1982, this advancement to the municipality ( dimos ). On 1 January 2011 Neo Psychiko was merged with Filothei and Psychiko for new community - Filothei Psychiko in which it has since forming a district.

History

The area was used and wooded, until it was settled in the 1920s for agricultural purposes. Today, green spaces confined to a few places, roadsides and some green hills in the north. Psychiko was founded in 1923 and grew over the years until the area of Neo Psychiko was settled. In 1946 it was recognized as the municipality and in 1982 as a community. According to legend, the name is - it means peace of mind (from Greek ψυχή, soul) - stem from the fact that the legendary marathon runner who brought the news of the victory at Marathon to Athens, rested in this place and recovered. According to another legend, this is the Holy Filothea has opened up a fountain in the 16th century to refresh travelers and the surrounding farmers. A third story says that the name came from a source that has been opened on the south side of the old people's home, probably from the Hadrian's aqueduct, which was demolished in the 19th century.

Location

Neo Psychiko is located about 6 km north-east of the Acropolis, just south of Attiki Odos and the Olympic sports complex. It is bordered to the north by Chalandri, on the northwest by Filothei, on the west by Psychiko, in the southwest of Athens, on the southeast by Papagou, to the east by Cholargos and to the northeast of Agia Paraskevi. It is developed primarily through the Kifissia Boulevard to the west and the Mesogion Boulevard to the east.

Mayor

Mayor Pandelis Charokopos was elected in the elections in October 2006 by a narrow margin of 50.65 % in the second round, and held office until the end of 2010. Since 2010 Neo Psychiko is a district of the new community Filothei - Psychiko. New mayor has since Pandelis Χyridakis ( Παντελής Ξυριδάκης ).

Environmental policy

The community plays a leading role in environmental protection: Since the early 1990s, a number of traffic calming measures have been taken, carried out research projects to improve road safety, 1992, Environmental Education Park was established, a cycle network is under construction with the recycling bins are located at each corner, energy saving light bulbs and hybrid vehicles as buses are used.
