Neochmia

Binsenastrild ( Neochmia ruficauda )

Sonnenastrilde ( Neochmia ), also called Sonnenamadinen, are a genus of the family of finches. In their behavior, and their plumage, they have similarities to African Amaranten and Blauastrilden.

System

At issue is the number of species of this genus. In the opinion of Horst Biel field who has published the German standard work on finches belong to the Binsenastrild due to its coloring, its tail length and its behavior in a separate genus. In his view, are the similarities between Sonnenastrild and Binsenastrild only the expression of a convergent, ie adapted to the same conditions development. Clement leads 1993 only two species of this type, namely the Sonnenastrild and Binsenastrild. Ornithologists Jürgen Nicolai and Joachim Steinbacher result 2001, three species ( Sonnenastrild, Binsenastrild and Dornastrild ). Contrast, BirdLife factsheet has four species of this genus. This assignment is also followed here.

Dissemination

Both the Binsenastrild and the Sonnenastrild are located in Australia. Both types hold off on Preferably in the vicinity of water, in swamps and plains of tall grass, rushes, reeds and sedges.
