Neodymium ( III) oxide is a chemical bond between the rare earth element neodymium and oxygen, and belongs to the group of the metal oxides.
Properties
Neodymium ( III) oxide having a hexagonal crystal structure of the lanthanide - A type.
Use
Neodymium (III ) oxide is used as a pigment for ceramics and optical color or special glasses. It produces very warm purple to maroon and gray tones. It is used, for example, in glass of daylight bulbs. Such glasses have sharp absorption bands and are used in astronomy to calibrate as well as a laser material. Neodymium ( III) oxide is further for high- temperature-resistant enamel, as a component of ceramic materials or dopants used in ceramic capacitors ( as a dopant of barium titanate ) and as a catalyst in the rubber production. It also comes as a powder in nanotechnology used.
