Neoptera

Acker (Bombus pascuorum )

The Neuflügler ( Neoptera ) are a superorder of insects ( Insecta ). As a defining feature, they can fold their wings back on the abdomen using a special joint and the corresponding muscles. They include all flying insects ( pterygota ) with the exception of mayflies (Ephemeroptera ) and the dragonflies ( Odonata ).

The ability to create the wings close to the body, allows the animals only to colonize a wide range of habitats. You have the option to hide and get into tight crevices and buildings by this change. With the conversion of the joint and the flight muscles and the wings themselves had to be redesigned so that it was folded in. This happened over a series of grooves in the wings.
